Youth HUB Opening Ceremony!

Youth SEED is proud to be launching the Youth HUB Fellowship Program in collaboration with United Roots and Impact Hub Oakland!  To celebrate, we are launching a monthly event series, which begins September 24 with a cultural ceremony of elder storytelling, traditional music and a panel of youth using art and culture for social change. In the following months, we will host a Black and Brown Unity film festival, a Youth-Made art exhibit and marketplace and a Winter Solstice celebration highlighting legacies of innovation and cross-cultural collaboration from around the globe. The series aims to inspire youth to draw on their cultural heritage for their entrepreneurship and creative expression. Click here to RSVP.

Youth SEED Intensive Pitch Event

On July 29th, five passionate and dedicated teams pitched their Social Enterprise projects at Impact HUB Oakland for a total of $1,700 in cash prizes. An amazing volunteer panel judged each pitch and made rankings to distribute the prize money. Panelists were representing Pandora, Oakland's Small Business Development Agency, Centro Community Partners, Build Ur Impact, MartiniBird and Edge Driven Consulting.  The top pitch and $1000 award went to Hope Lehman of Fresh2Def, a women of color arts collective. Click here for photos of all 5 pitches.  Thank you to our sponsor Americorps Public Allies, and our partners United Roots and Impact Hub Oakland for supporting the next generation of social change leaders!

Japanese Social Entrepreneurs

On August 7, Youth SEED facilitated workshops for Y-PLAN (Youth - Plan, Learn, Act, Now) as part of the Tomodachi Youth Leadership Exchange program. This global effort brings 100 youth from the Tohoku region of Japan that was devastated by the Great Tsunami in 2011 to UC Berkeley to learn about community development and social action.  Youth SEED trained these 100 amazing young leaders in how to deliver an effective social enterprise pitch, in preparation for their final program presentations!

YouthMade workshop

On June 24, Youth SEED facilitated an Intro to Social Enterprise workshop for youth from the YouthMade program, a collaboration between Juma Ventures, College Track and SF Made. Youth participants learned about the principles of social entrepreneurship and were inspired by examples of local, youth-led social enterprises.  By the end of the workshiop, youth were able to articulate  how Juma Ventures operates as a model social enterprise.  For more info about YouthMade, check out the SF Made website.
