On May 23, 9 teams of youth social entrepreneurs from the Youth Hub Fellowship Program (a year-long social entrepreneurship training and co-working program of Youth SEED in partnership withUnited Roots) presented their proposals for social enterprises to create equity in low-income communities. The 9 youth teams are participating in this innovative program through the support of a community of businesses and organizations including: Numi Organic Tea, Guayakí Yerba Mate, Nutiva, ALTER ECO, Adobe, Telestream, Inc., Jonas Family Foundation, Small Planet Fund, Barb Reynolds.

Each team pitched to a panel of local community leaders for $1000 each in seed funding provided by The Pollination Project. 5 teams were awarded unconditional funding (ready to receive the full seed funding immeditaley), and 4 teams recieved conditional funding (based on their abilty to address feedback from the panel). BLING, a youth philanthropy group awarded an additional $2000 between 3 youth teams!

There were live cultural performances from Young, Gifted and Black, Jax, & DJ adamah, as well as a marketplace of local entrepreneurs (including 67 Sueños, DetermiNation Media Group, Mandela Marketplace, Tamales La Oaxaqueña, RYSE and The Real Oakland).

Many thanks to everyone who supported this historic event!
